DUNLOP MINI CHALLENGES supported by MINI SPARES

BRANDS HATCH MINI FESTIVAL – 16/17 July 2016

The Mini Festival South at Brands Hatch last weekend proved a big hit with racegoers and organisers alike. Crowd figures were up on 2015, with the Mini Se7en Racing Club providing a quarter of the weekend’s circuit entertainment as it celebrated its 50th Anniversary by hosting an unrivalled party on the Saturday night!

In the Mini Miglia races, Rob Howard provided the biggest shock of the weekend, taking his first ever victory in the opening race on Saturday after holding off 2015 champion Rupert Deeth in an epic battle.

Series leader Shayne Deegan dropped out after a clash with 2016 champion Kane Astin, but made amends in Sunday’s race, with Deeth again taking a runner-up spot, ahead of Damon Astin in the first of the Invitation cars from Dave Drew in fourth.

While Ashley Davies, Max Hunter and Lewis Selby filled the 1-2-3 podium spots in both Se7en races, the lead swapped hands on numerous occasions and the action right down the capacity field of runners was equally close.

In the budget-tuning S-Class, Shaun Tarlton and Josh Collins took a win apiece, while Lee Briscall and Leon Window were the top novices over both races.

Next stop on the calendar for the 2016 Dunlop Mini Challenge supported by Mini Spares, is Oulton Park on 20 August, and the Mini Festival North.

After their Brands victories, Deegan and Davies head to Cheshire with secure leads in their respective classes, but we have seen late season charges before, so expect the unexpected…
